Emotion is an app that aims to help users change their mood to help do various tasks such as concentration, relaxation, sleep and more.

The Science

Pavlov and his dog

Pavlov was a Russian physiologist from the 1890’s. His studies of conditioning are quite famous, expecially with his dog. He would ring a bell and then feed his dog. After repeating over and over, he could now ring the bell and the dog would salivate as if he was going to be fed.

The idea of this app is to get users into a specific state with guided meditation and hypnosis, and then fire off an anchor. After doing this enough times the theory is that you could fire an anchor off on your phone and get into the state faster then meditation.

Research

The first step was to interview people for some discovery research. I wanted to understand if people were aware of their mood effecting their ability to get things done. Then to understand what they do to get out of those states. Lastly if they used any apps or would be interested in an app like this.

Initial findings

All the answers were documented and pattens began to emerge. From this and competitor analysis I could begin to work on the MVP. I put together the user flow and the IA.

Early Wireframes

I started by sketching some quick ideas onto paper to get a feeling of how much content i had, and how it could fit on the screen. The user flow also helped understand how the user would interact and move through the app.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

Then I moved the designs to the computer into sketch. With this I was able to create some paper prototypes and test with users.

High Fidelity Wireframes

With the findings from the paper prototype sessions I made the hi fidelity wireframes. These were then moved to invision and tested again.

Results from the sessions

Overall the feed back for he app was good. Users understood what it was used for and how to navigate it. Everyone commented on the visuals and said they really liked the style.
