Alive Vegan App

Alive is a one stop shop to veganism on mobile and web. From finding recipes, friends, restaurants and products, to a photo food diary or reading articles, its all here.

Information Architecture

The challenge

While researching what people wanted in a vegan lifestyle app, a large range of features were desired. From finding restaurants, recipes, products, friends, barcode scanner and articles, it was going to be challenging to create a simple interface to accomidate everything.

Breaking down the key features in the IA was the best starti g point to understanding the navigation. Card sorts and tree sorts were conducted to create and valiate the IA.

Personas

Breaking down the demographic

After all the research I could see patterns in the potential users. These were then turned into 3 different persona types to constantly remind myself who I am designing for.

Experience Map

After creating the personas, i began working on an experiance map. This allowed me to understand the scenarios they would incounter from day to day, relate to their pain points and see where the app could fill thoses areas of discomfort.

User Flows

Then the user flow could be created to really map out how the app was going to work and how the user would navigate.

This idea began after researching through focus groups, brain dumps and surveys, what vegans and aspiring vegans were looking for in an app. After much analysing and competitor analysis I created a

Desktop App

Cross channel solutions

The website version was created to help with various scenarios found in the user journey and from the personas. This was easier then the mobile as there was more screen real estate.

Animation

Fitting more on the screen

There was challenges with fitting everything on the mobile version. Especialy for smaller mobiles. The introduction of animated transitions were key to solving this issue.

The animation also adds life and character to the app.

After completing 6 usability tests there were some great reactions and some recommendations. Overall most users really liked it and loved the look of it. There were some issues with the flow being confusing and a few smaller issues.
